Description

Located on the banks of the Canal du Midi, The Maison de la Haute-Garonne houses an exhibition hall of 200m² with fun and instructive exhibits about the Canal du Midi. This work of the 17th Century has been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1996. Open tours are free, guided tours
As a tribute to Pierre Paul Riquet, creator of the Canal du Midi, this exhibition presents everything you need to know about this majestic waterway linking Toulouse to Sète: its history, its construction and its operation are evoked through educational panels and interactive models…as you follow your fun and instructive journey, you will understand why the Canal du Midi is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The visit, with the help of explanatory sheets, is free of charge. On reservation, a paying guided tour is possible in French or English. Associated with this exhibition, a specialised bookshop and a “Tourist Information” point offer extensive documentation on the Haute-Garonne and the Canal du Midi.
