Carcassonne will host the arrival of the 15th stage of the 2025 Tour de France!

Carcassonne will once again be in the spotlight this summer as the finish city of the Tour de France on Sunday July 20, 2025! This long-awaited event will bring together cycling enthusiasts and the people of Carcassonne for a historic moment, while the 15th stage will take the riders from Muret to the medieval city, offering an unforgettable spectacle.

Created in 1903, the Tour de France is a legendary competition which each year features the best cyclists in the world on a demanding route crossing the iconic landscapes and regions of France. Over the years, this iconic race, followed by millions of spectators around the world, has become a major sporting and cultural event.

Carcassonne, which will host the Tour for the 13th time, has a long and rich history with this competition. The Tour’s first visit to our city dates back to 1947 and left its mark on memories, with the incredible solo escape of Albert Bourlon, concluded victoriously after 253 kilometers in Luchon – a record still unequaled. More recently, in 2021, Mark Cavendish equaled Eddy Merckx’s record for stage victories in Carcassonne before surpassing him three years later, with 35 victories, during the Saint-Vulbas stage!

The passage of the Tour de France in 2025 is a unique opportunity to celebrate the history of this race and to promote the rich heritage of Carcassonne, by sharing with the whole world the charm and splendor of our fortified city.

Stage: Muret – Carcassonne
The Carcassonne road often proves sprinters right, but the 2,400 meters of elevation gain in less than 170 kilometers can also encourage adventurers to take the offensive. The coast of Saint-Ferréol via Revel, then the Pas du Sant in the Tarn valley (2.9 km at 10%) can help eliminate opponents. There will then be 40 kilometers of slight descent to reach the Medieval City, possibly with a strong wind blowing from the side!
