As part of its international campaign against illiteracy, ROTARY is once again taking action this year in several towns in the OCCITANIE region.
The ROTARY Club d?AGDE – CAP D?AGDE has decided to take part, and is therefore organizing this Dictée on Saturday, March 15, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm in the Salle GUILLEMIN at Agde Town Hall.
One of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL?s key commitments is to promote literacy and basic education. Knowing how to read, write and count is a prerequisite for personal, social and professional success. Illiteracy is a scourge even in our society, where schooling is compulsory and free for everyone up to the age of 16. In France, 2.5 million adults are currently illiterate. (7% of the population aged 18 to 65)
What is illiteracy?
Illiteracy refers to the situation where people who have attended school have not acquired sufficient mastery of reading, writing, arithmetic and basic skills to be autonomous in simple everyday situations.
The reading of this dictation, which will start at 2:30 p.m. sharp, will be in 3 parts:
> part 1 for children up to age 10
> Parts 1 and 2 for young people up to 18 years of age
> the whole dictation for adults over 18
During the corrections, a snack will be offered to all participants.
At the end, prizes will be awarded for each of the 3 categories.
Participation is free up to the age of 12, with a minimum charge of ?5 for those over 12, but it will of course be possible to make a donation on site.
To register, send an e-mail to rotary-agdecapdagde@myassoc.org, specifying first name, surname and age for each person. On-site registration is also possible, subject to availability.
All proceeds from this event will be used to provide teaching materials for the AGDE CROIX ROUGE literacy program.
